5 reasons why I’m leaning back into video this year
I’ve always loved video, but after leading a video challenge and making daily videos for a few years, I got a little burned out. Now that I’ve had some time off, I’m back! It feels good to reconnect with my favorite medium.
I also think it’s the right time for video. Here are 5 reasons why:
It eliminates the AI question. I’m seeing so many conversations about AI creating content and the growing skepticism around it. With video, we can see your face and hear you speaking so we know it’s you. Even if AI came up with the content you present on video, you’re going to put your spin on it. (If you read directly from a script, people will know.)
It’s great for introverts like me. We can make videos in our safe space and respond to comments when we have the energy to interact.
It creates an authentic connection. We get a taste of your personality and your style. And we can look into your eyes (if you look at the camera and not yourself). Nothing creates a stronger connection than that.
It makes me a better writer. I use my real voice, my real words, and I picture speaking directly to someone. That’s a little harder to do when writing. There’s a temptation to use “better” words to sound smart, and we don’t always picture our audience. But with video, I imagine talking to one person. Sometimes, when I need to write an email or even a sales page, I make a video and the words flow naturally and I can grab the content and move it into written form.
Ok the 5th reason is kind of silly - you get to see my cats, Deja and Lily. Or maybe that’s the top reason. ;)
Have I convinced you?
In the next video, I’ll share some of my favorite tools for making it easy to create videos.
